Gas! Gas! Gas!, somehow in both contradiction to and aligned with its less-than-peaceful aesthetic and thematic concerns, is lush and colorful and occasionally even melodic. The jagged shrapnel scavenged from scattered impact sites—as diverse as beat music and bitcrush, power electronics and psychedelia—doesn’t jumble together, isn’t glued into some absurd composite that breaks under its own weight; it’s all carefully tempered and braided into searing livewires, high-voltage shocks, primeval volatility.
