With Root Bound, BA's flagship project becomes both brickbreaker and bricklayer. Just as densely textured and even more glacially stagnant than Forced Collapse (as well as returning to the arboreal aesthetic of The Indifference of Nature), this new triple-cassette opus builds upward from thick and knob-gnarled subterranean veins of pedal crunch to spidering branches of intricate crackle. Rather than seething or erupting, this noise stands planted and resolute in the charred earth, each section an impenetrable monolith webbed and wracked with the immersive detail that has become Gemengung's calling card.
