Armed only with a guitar, a choice smattering of effects, and an ear for the unassumingly sublime, Blooming Stones conjures fleeting hints of hope in the face of an uncertain future for their full-length debut. Major-key warmth and repeating harmonic resolutions are born in the depths of caverns and gradually, organically, force their way to the surface, paltry but nonetheless resolute spires of light beaming from the very pores of the earth. Cycles is full of darkness, no doubt about that, but it’s a darkness that can be escaped, emerged from, and the shadows are eventually framed by the very illumination they once obscured.
